Product Description

OmniScan for M-Files
OmniScan is an enterprise document scanning application. It incorporates Paragon Systems’ HTML5 viewing technology, ParaVista for document viewing. OmniScan in combination with ParaVista is a powerful tool that gives a user the ability to edit and manage their scanned documents before releasing and exporting them to M-Files or other data source. The advantage of this is that all document editing can be performed within the scanning process. For instance, we can manually redact scanned documents before they are released to your M-Files repository.

An OmniScan user can easily create a custom workflow for processing documents as they are scanned. This post processing workflow is determined when the user configures their scanning profiles. The number of supported profiles is virtually limitless. Different profiles can be configured for different scanner environments, different object and class associations, different departmental requirements, or other unique processing requirements. Users can determine what post-processing actions they want to apply to a profile such as automatic de-skew, OCR, and auto rotate for making sure all documents are positioned correctly. Auto rotate is extremely important when a user wants to create searchable pdf documents. If the orientation of a page is incorrect then the OCR process for that page will fail and it will not be rendered in a searchable format. Documents can be manually reviewed to determine if the pages are correctly oriented or a scan operator can use the automated auto rotate feature for automatically creating the correct page rotations.

Paragon has created an audit feature that when activated requires that a scan operator review a batch before release. This feature ensures that the quality of the batch is confirmed before it can be released. There are also two audit logs in OmniScan: activity and status. The activity log gives a historical account of all the actions a scan operator has made within the OmniScan application. The status log displays the status of all batches that have been released after scan.

When OmniScan is used as a desktop application it can be set to automatically release document batches directly to M-Files or manually release when the scan operator decides to release. The application also has built in OCR capabilities for converting any scanned page into textual format. The text can then be added to the pdf to create a searchable pdf. This searchable pdf document can then be released or exported to M-Files.

OmniScan also has a form creation tool FormLab that can be used to manage and validate the metadata that is associated with different documents. The user builds the data capture form and links it with a document class. The tool has a drag and drop interface where users can easily drag and drop field functions and attributes onto the form template. The module supports most sql standard databases.
